Time to leave!!


Ok lets start with how my year was. I know that sounds a little crazy but i’ll do it. It all started with us coming here which was an excpiriens.  we came from Guayaquil to cuenca in a van and after that we setelde in to our house and took off to the jungle Tena and Baños. then we sort of had a little life here because me Sam and Locke had school and we had plans. 

after a couple mounths our neighbors from Alaska Jamie and Jake came here for about a week and then we still were in our normal days from Ecuador. Another 2 mounths past by now its around christmas and we took off to the cost were all the ocean is there we meet hattie and brett we had a week at the cost and then had a 9 hour van ride to the sierra wich is were the mountians are and first we went to llullu llama hostal thats when christmas happened and then we hiked to a difrent hostal for one night after that we hiked back to llullu llama and spend 1 more night there. Then we went to Cotopaxi wich is the 2 to talest mountian in Ecuador, the last stop was the hot springs for one night then siad good bey. Two mounths later grandma came around Lockes birthday and we went with our family and our grandmas friend to Otavalo for 2 days then drove to Quito and we split apart with my grandmas friend then stay 4 days in cuenca with out my grandmas friend then she comes and thats on Lockes birthday when we get the kitties. then we say our good beys and my grandma and her friend go back to the USA. 3 mounths  later we went back to the farm  and delivered the cats. And that brings us to now. of course I did not tell you that we went to gualaquisa, inti camari, and a lot more becuase that was just a hint of what we did.

Faces of Cuenca

Some have asked how I am passing my time while unemployed. The answer is that I have no trouble filling up a day that starts as a blank slate. I have been studying, volunteering, adventuring, and now, painting. I knew that I wanted to explore creative interests during this time, so for the past couple of months, I have allowed myself to dive in. As some of you know, I have been dabbling in watercolor for the past couple of years, mostly exploring landscapes and mountains. I am intrigued and intimidated by the flow and spontaneity that the medium necessitates. I have enjoyed looking at the world through a lens of light and shadow. I have challenged myself to see shape and color rather than familiar form. I try to approach painting with a spirit of curiosity and exploration rather than any sort of expectation.   The No-Pony Express   The famed Inca Trail that climbs staircase after staircase to Machu Picchu is part of a 25,000 mile system of roads the Incas built called the Quapac Nan.   Their empire was enormous.   It ran almost the entire length of the Andes from southern Colombia through Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and into Argentina and Chile.   The Idea of the wheel hadn’t reached them or occurred to them.   Horses arrived later, with the Spaniards.   This left, during the pre-columbian Incan empire, llamas and feet as their primary means of transportation.   The terrain of the empire was brutal- high, steep, rugged, muddy; deep canyons, raging rivers, snowy volcanoes, dense vegetation.   But, they were prolific builders.   In order to travel the expanse of their territory, they built one of the coolest roads the world has ever known.   From top to bottom the “high”way stretched 3,500 miles, longer than the longest Roman road.   Ther...
